Is Hellraiser: Revival Uncut? Germany, Japan & Ratings

Hellraiser: Revival was made to be as explicit as the films. Saber’s game director has said the studio is “strongly against censorship in games”, and the team admits they half wanted a ban somewhere. Here is where things stand on October 6, 2026.

What the content descriptors say

Steam’s mature content notice lists: mature language, strong violence, gore, torture, consensual mutilation, drug and alcohol abuse, tobacco use and non-explicit consensual sex. Narrative scenes also deal with suicide, domestic abuse, BDSM practices and addiction. There is full nudity, male and female; the developers say they deliberately showed “female pain, male pain, female pleasure, male pleasure” as evenly as they could.

The free demo contains the same material, which makes it the honest preview. What the demo covers.

Germany

After pre-orders opened, German players noticed the trailers had vanished from the German store page, then the game itself became unavailable in the region. The cause, as far as anyone has shown, is simple: no USK rating, no sale on the German storefront. It is not a formal ban, which Saber also points out. A Steam player-run thread notes there was no special German licence on SteamDB, and a Reddit comment says some players bought it before the delisting. We do not link to gifting, key or VPN workarounds; region rules on Steam can lock a key you buy abroad.

”Uncensored trailer” vs the game

Some of what looks like censorship is YouTube, not Saber. Several trailers were age-restricted within a day, and creators blur parts of their videos to stay monetised. The developers say the game itself will be “viewable as long as creators set the appropriate mature content warnings”. There is no in-game nudity filter; streamers on the Steam forum have asked for one, and others note the demo has been streamed uncensored without trouble. There is a streamer mode for licensed music.

Can I play it if I am under 17?

In the US, the ESRB rating is a guideline, not a law, but every store will ask for age confirmation and the official site has an 18+ gate. This is one of the most explicit games on any console store. Parents: the content list above is accurate and nothing is hidden behind a setting.
