Hellraiser: Revival Beginner Tips: 12 Things to Know First
These tips come from Saber’s own gameplay overview, the developer diaries and the most common problems in 1,229 demo reviews and the Steam forum. They will be expanded with full-game tips after launch.
Combat
- Melee weapons break. Durability is a core system. Carry a spare and swap before a fight starts; changing melee weapons from the inventory mid-fight is slow, and demo players got caught out by it.
- Blunt for armour, sharp for flesh. Bats and clubs break armour; machetes and knives shred unarmoured enemies. Armoured heavies need the armour off before damage counts.
- Headshots matter. Enemies without head armour can die to a single pistol headshot. The demo’s aim assist is generous.
- Execute, do not finish with bullets. When an enemy is stunned or low, the execution prompt appears. Executions collect Suffering, which powers the Genesis Configuration.
- Throw things. Telekinesis turns saw blades and rail spikes into free damage. Use the room before you use ammo.
- Dodge is your defence. There is no confirmed parry in the demo; the rhythm against cultists is hit, dodge, hit.
Survival
- Do not fight the Cenobites. You cannot kill them. If you hear teeth chattering, run. Hiding is a real option the developers built in.
- Read every room. Ammo, healing and crafting materials are often tucked away without a glint, which reviewers liked. Search drawers and shelves.
- Manage the inventory like Resident Evil. Space is limited. One demo player had to drop pistol ammo for space; decide what you are carrying before you need it.
- Visit the shopkeeper. A mysterious shopkeeper barters upgrades. Hold on to anything valuable until you have seen the stock.
Settings and snags
- Fix the picture first. No FOV slider in the demo, and blacks can look grey on OLED: lower brightness until the darkest shadows are black. Turn off head bob if the option is there.
- The demo door that keeps shutting: wait on the platform until the door is fully open, then sprint. Locker codes and the skull puzzle are on the demo codes page.
Before you start
- Check your unlock time and that your PC meets the 80 GB SSD requirement.
- Know which enemies to fight and which Cenobites to run from.
- If you want context, two films and a novella are all the homework there is.
