Hellraiser: Revival Genesis Configuration: Powers & Puzzles

The Lament Configuration from the films opens a door. The Genesis Configuration is a different box with “a specific purpose”: it can do what the Lament does, bridging our world and the Labyrinth, and it is also the thing the Cenobites, the Scarlet Church and the Unworthy all want. For you, it is a weapon and a key.

Combat powers

PowerWhat it doesSource
TelekinesisRip objects out of the room and hurl them; Saber’s examples are saw blades and rail spikes, which maim and dismemberGenesis Configuration trailer post; overview trailer
PyrokinesisAbsorb fire from the environment and throw it to burn enemies and scenerySame
Hell ChainsThe ultimate ability: chains that tear opponents apart. Unlocked by gathering enough SufferingSame

You can hold the box in one hand and a pistol in the other, and chain powers and gunfire together. Saber’s screenshots show the box in the left hand and a gun or fire in the right.

Suffering: the fuel

The box runs on Suffering, which you collect by executing enemies once they are stunned or low on health. That loop is the core of combat: stun, execute, collect Suffering, spend it on powers. Fill it far enough and you can use the Hell Chains.

Practical tips from the demo and trailers:

  • Execute instead of shooting the last hit; every execution charges the box.
  • Use telekinesis on whatever is lying around before you spend ammo. A thrown saw blade costs nothing.
  • Fire spreads to the environment; do not burn the room you are standing in.

Puzzle uses

Outside combat you manipulate the box itself. Saber and preview coverage describe:

  • Rotating the Labyrinth: turn a huge structure to rearrange narrow walkways across a room full of spikes, or rotate walls into a path in an Escher-like space.
  • The box as a key: return a missing body part (a tongue or a hand) to a statue, then reshape the box into the shape the gate needs.
  • Multiple solutions: at least one creator who studied the previews says some puzzles can be solved more than one way. Treat that as unconfirmed until launch.

In the demo, the nail-studded skull and the red door are the first taste of this. Solutions are on the demo codes page.

Why it is called Genesis

The developers point out that the films and the novella always implied more than one configuration exists. Narrative director Anthony De Fault describes the Genesis box as “made for purpose” for a Cenobite plot: Pinhead and his order want something, and this box is how they get it. Sunny triggers it; Aidan has to carry it through the Labyrinth to get her soul back.

Replica boxes

All three collector’s editions include a light-up replica, and buyer’s guides say you can pick the Genesis or the classic Lament version while stock lasts. Editions compared.
