Hellraiser: Revival Demo: Length, Content & Is It Worth It

Saber released the demo on Steam on September 17, 2026, three weeks before launch, alongside the Scarlet Church trailer. It is a separate free download (Steam app 5184670) and it is the same build family as the full game, which makes it the best pre-launch test of both your PC and your stomach.

What you actually play

From the store description, Saber’s trailer post and the reviews, the demo introduces Aidan and Sunny, the Genesis Configuration and the Scarlet Church, and teaches “the basics of combat, crafting and puzzle solving”. In practice that means:

  • An opening that many players compare to P.T., with looping rooms and notes about Aidan and Sunny’s relationship.
  • A Chatterer chase: the moment most reviews single out. You run, use quick-turn to check behind you, and cannot fight back.
  • First fights with cultists, including an armoured heavy that makes you wish you had a blunt weapon.
  • Locker codes, a nail-studded skull and a red door. All solutions are on the demo codes page.
  • A weapon set that one demo video catalogues as pistol, revolver, shotgun, SMG, assault rifle, sawblade, machete, cleaver and a knife labelled “Jagger Messer”. See weapons.

What players liked and disliked

The 100 most helpful English reviews agree on more than they disagree:

  • Liked: atmosphere and sound, Doug Bradley’s Pinhead, the Leviathan above the Labyrinth, how far the gore goes, smooth performance, a real one-hour demo instead of a ten-minute teaser.
  • Disliked: clunky melee and awkward melee swapping in the inventory, enemies that walk set paths and can be cheesed by hiding, no FOV slider, grey blacks on OLED, and an audio bug with left and right channels swapped.

A few players also felt there was too much ammo in the demo; others pointed out the demo is the opening hour and the full game may be leaner. The full breakdown is on the early verdict page.

What the September 21 patch fixed

Saber patched the demo four days after release:

  • Softlocks during movement, combat and environmental interactions; input freezing when combining actions
  • Quick-turn trigger conditions; aim state sticking after rebinding Aim
  • Enemy animation loops, overlapping cultist voice lines, effects playing after death
  • Incorrect tutorial hints; Leviathan Puzzle shadow rendering
  • Tutorial and objective text vanishing after changing settings; journal collections not updating
  • Lighting across the Prologue and Episode 1; character model artefacts
  • Wrong resolution on multi-monitor setups; the executable is now signed and no longer flagged
  • Aidan’s hair missing in the Prologue outro cinematic

Should you play it before launch?

Play it if you are unsure about the content or your hardware: it is free, an hour long and honest about what the game is. Skip it if you have already decided to buy and want the opening fresh; several reviewers who loved it said exactly that. Saber has not said that demo progress carries over.

Can your PC run it? System requirements and Steam Deck notes.
